What the calculation does

  1. For each carat, multiply net grams by carat ÷ 24 to obtain approximate pure-gold grams.
  2. Compare the included total with the stated 85 g pure-gold benchmark.
  3. If the threshold and full lunar year are confirmed, apply 2.5% to the included gold value in QAR.

On personal jewellery

Jurists do not hold one view on gold worn as ordinary adornment. The default calculation covers saved or investment gold; the checkbox lets you see the alternative including worn jewellery. Do not use this switch as a substitute for a qualified answer about your own case.

For a Qatar-specific answer, seek guidance from the Ministry of Awqaf’s Zakat Affairs Department.

Religious references

The 85 g, lunar-year and 2.5% illustration follows the gold-zakat guidance shown by Qatar Charity. Its own gold calculator states an 85 g 24K threshold. Egypt’s Dar Al-Ifta documents the disagreement over worn jewellery. These links provide context, not a personalised fatwa.

Practical answers

Gold zakat questions

What is the gold nisab used here?

The tool uses 85 grams of pure-gold equivalent as its stated benchmark. It converts each entered carat weight by carat ÷ 24 before comparing. Ask a qualified local authority if you use another applicable ruling.

What does one lunar year mean?

The estimate is marked potentially due only when you confirm a complete lunar year under your applicable zakat calculation. This tool does not determine your starting date or continuity of ownership.

Is personal jewellery included?

Views differ. Saved or investment gold is included by default; ordinary worn jewellery is included only if you choose that view. Consult a qualified scholar for your circumstances.

Are stones and making charges part of the gold weight?

No. Enter only the net gold weight. The tool values gold using the current matching carat reference and excludes stones, workmanship and shop premiums.

Can cash or silver change the result?

Yes. This is a gold-only illustration, not a complete zakat assessment. Other eligible assets, liabilities and local rulings can change the overall calculation.
